Doctors who completed their medical studies abroad and wish to practice medicine in Germany. The medical language exam is a prerequisite for obtaining a medical license (Approbation) or temporary work permit.

The Fachsprachpruefung (FSP) Medizin is an exam administered by the regional medical chamber (Landesaerztekammer). It verifies that international doctors have sufficient German language skills for medical practice. The FSP is a prerequisite for obtaining a medical license (Approbation) or temporary work permit in Germany.

All doctors who completed their medical studies abroad and wish to practice medicine in Germany must pass the FSP. It is administered by the respective regional medical chamber.

The FSP consists of three parts: Part I is a doctor-patient conversation (history taking, 20 min.), Part II is written documentation as a medical report (20 min.), and Part III is an oral case presentation to a specialist (20 min.).
